This Year's Model Updates:

The value-priced Work Truck package is now available on both regular and extended cabs. Base models pick up cruise control, a sound system, chrome rear bumper and chrome wheels. An automatic transmission is now standard on LS models, and the V6 is no longer an option in this trim. Other updates include new polished aluminum wheels and 265/70R16 tires with either black sidewalls or raised white lettering. The Quadrasteer option no longer requires the buyer to order trailering equipment. There's also a new tonneau cover, and inside, you'll find underseat storage. Finally, Chevrolet has deleted the Silverado's passenger-side outside door lock.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended-cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, questionable build quality.

My Silverado is sporty and fun to drive. My truck had a bad rear diferential at 9000 miles however it was totally fixed good as new. I still like the truck very much after 3 years of ownership. I hunt and fish and the Silverado gets me to the country in style.

  • What you need.....a good basic truck! - 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I bought this truck used with 41K miles on it. I was looking for a small truck but at the price and what shape it was in I could not pass it up. I bought this when the gas spiked up so I got it for $7,000. The V6 is a little under powered but gets you moving. I commute 30 miles everyday to work and I have gotten it to average 20, not bad. I have had zero problems with it. I would say if you need a truck for weekend work and want something comfortable, easy to drive, then a basic 1500 is what you should look for.

performance is great but truck is too slow for the v6 4.3 vortec has no torque

This is my first truck. Looked at Ford and Dodge went with the Chevy. Best pick I ever made. Rids like a car. Gas mileage is poor but that is what you get with a 5.3 V8.

  • Almost there! - 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

excellent truck, overall, really, but GM couldve easily done a couple of things to improve it... as a couple of previous reviewers have noted, the ride can be a little choppy, and the handling isnt very good - if Im not mistaken, my 02 Avalanche handled better. some variable-rate springs mightve done the trick. the trucks appearance is fine from a distance, but I think they couldve done something better with the lower-body cladding - up close it looks very "after-thought-ish". Acceleration is fine, seats and interior are great. Fuel economy is so-so, but we knew that going in, right?

The truck is definitely fun to drive and has lots of power. Drawbacks are terrible gas mileage (and premium) and noises from the AWD caused by bad assembly of the carrier.

  • Great Truck - 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Overall very happy. Mileage was better than expected, equal the the Ranger 4.0 pig it replaced. Ride and interior comfort outstanding. Exterior looks leave something to be desired though. Plenty of power from the 5.3 V8, tranny shifts like a dream. I would buy it again.

  • Go Buy One! - 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I upgraded to this vehicle from a 99 Ext. Cab GMC Sierra. I love having four "real" doors, especially when you have a two year old daughter to buckle in a car seat. The additional cabin space in the back seat is well worth the sacrifice of eight inches of bed space. The 5.3 litre V8 is smooth as glass. There is also great visibility when looking out the side windows and back window. The current rebates and discounts are incredible! I bought this vehicle for $1,200 less than I paid for my 99 model brand new.

  • noisy and bad ride - 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

has alot of wind noise, vibrations and there is a glunking in drive train when shifting up and down. dealer told me its normal for Z71 package terrible rides

  • Silverado Clunker - 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

This is a good looking vehicle but the constant clunking is very annoying. GM says that it is normal due to torque buildup between transmission and transfer case. They also say they have changed the transmission for 2005 model to eliminate the problem. They offer an extended warranty for free but I already have it. They sent an engineer out to drive it and he reported a definite problem but they still claim that it is normal. Why wont they stand behind their vehicle and repair the problem . Very unhappy with GM over this vehicle.
